Dried Cranberry
What's inside?
- Cranberries are a group of evergreen dwarf shrubs or trailing vines in the subgenus Oxycoccus of the genus Vaccinium.
- In Britain, cranberry may refer to the native species Vaccinium oxycoccos, while in North America, cranberry may refer to Vaccinium macrocarpon.
- Dried cranberries are made by partially dehydrating fresh cranberries, a process similar to making grapes into raisins.
- They are popular in trail mix, salads, and bread, with cereals, or eaten on their own.
- Dried cranberries are sometimes referred to as craisins due to the name's similarity to raisins.
Benefits?
- They are packed with antioxidants, and many of those antioxidants are still present after the cranberries are dried.
- You’ll find that eating more cranberries will be a great way to get the antioxidants.
- They’re most often consumed as juice, which is normally sweetened and blended with other fruit juices.
- Other cranberry-based products include sauces, dried cranberries, powders, and extracts used in supplements.
Uses?
- Add dried cranberries to homemade cookies, muffins, quick bread, or cakes before baking.
- For a simple twist, add dried cranberries to your favorite whole grain ready-to-eat cereal.
