What's Inside?
- Annatto is an orange-red food coloring or condiment made from the seeds of the achiote tree.
- Annatto has a rich source of antioxidants such as cis-bixin, carotenoids, and vitamin A.
- It also contains minerals like calcium, sodium, and iron. It has a relatively high content of dietary fiber.
Benefits?
- Annatto seeds are high in tocotrienol, a form of vitamin E.
- They are also a rich source of antioxidants, which are beneficial for protecting skin cells, as well as minerals like calcium, sodium, and iron.
Uses?
- Add directly to cooking liquid or steep in boiling water for about 20 minutes until the desired color is obtained, then discard the seeds.
- The seeds may also be fried in oil, then discard the seeds and use oil.
